Reviews

So many books.......too little time. I think I read that on a tee shirt once. The end of the year is coming up quickly and I have been trying to put a dent or at least a nick on my TBR List. I am failing miserably, but I will PREVAIL!

Anyway, here are a few of the ones I have read and haven't had a chance to post yet.

This is not the typical bad boy meets good girl story.

Elizabeth has been passed from one foster home to another since birth, a lifetime of rejection that has landed her as an escort in Las Vegas. She’s ready to lay back and surrender her final shred of dignity, when he arrives: an otherworldly man with looks (and capacity) to kill, kicks in the door and calmly insists that Elizabeth leave with him.

Little does she know that this stranger is the ruler of the Canine Demons, immensely powerful dog-like spirits capable of taking human form, and that this Canine Lord believes that not only is she one of them, but that she’s the reincarnation of his mate, Emilie, the woman he’s torn through half a world to find.

"POWERFUL! Lucile Wild creates an intensely romantic world for young and old alike. A place where there is darkness and light, love and hope, and if you dare to go there you will never want to leave."

Demon Romance: Forbidden Mate: Submission to a Demon Lord (Dark  Prince Shifter #1) by Lucile Wild

It has potential but since it's so short it's kind of like a teaser. The story didn't do it for me, a little cheesy. If the author would have dug a little deeper it would have been something I really wanted to continue reading.

PARANORMAL ROMANCE, Book 1 by USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR
Seven years ago, my world ended.
Seven years later, my new life began.

It's been seven years since Lexi Knight lost her brother in a tragic accident. On the anniversary of his death, her brother's best friend shows up unexpectedly - a man she hasn't seen since the funeral. He is no longer the boy Lexi once knew, but a dangerous-looking man with tattoos and dark secrets. He broke her trust and abandoned her family, yet what he reveals makes it impossible to stay angry. Lexi has been secretly infatuated with Austin since childhood, so finding out he's a Shifter just makes him sexier. Dammit.

Austin Cole has returned to the city where he grew up, and just in time. He's lived a hard life these past seven years, and the shadows of his past are threatening to destroy Lexi's family. It's time that she learned the truth about her brother, but there is a shocking twist that Austin never saw coming. Now he must protect her family when her mother and sister wind up in mortal danger. Will Lexi learn to accept the truth about who he is, and can Austin salvage a relationship from the ruins of their past?

Destiny will find you.

Seven Years (Seven #1) by Dannika Dark

Let's just jump right in....Lexi finds out she is a shifter (wolf). Austin, the alpha comes back to town after the death of his BFF which was Lexi's brother. Austin, wanting to protect her, inducts her into his pack while she tries to come to terms with her new found knowledge.

The main thing I didn't like was the fact that Austin kept her in the dark and only informed her of things, especially the things that pertained to her, after-the-fact. I know that he was a fairly new leader, but he lacked a lot of finesse and confidence when it came to Lexi. NOT MY KIND OF ALPHA. It was making it hard for me to be down with him. You know, be a ride or die chick.

"No One Fucks With My Pack"
-Austin Cole

"Shut the Fuck Up"
-Prone to Crushes

Austin was really working my nerves trying to be a badass and not fully succeeding. At one point I thought it might be better if she went with the other pack. Once he and Lexi FINALLY got together, I experienced a disappointing and unfulfilled love scene, but at least they enjoyed it.

I was looking and hoping for MORE with this story. It's wasn't a bad read, I just didn't get what I needed and I don't know if I will continue with the series.

He was my older brother's best friend.
He was never supposed to be mine.
I thought we would get it out of our system and move on.

One of us did.
One of us left.

Now he’s back, looking at me like he wants to devour me. And all those feelings I’d turned into anger are brewing into something else, something that terrifies me.
He broke my heart last time.
This time he'll obliterate it.

This is a standalone.

Kaleidoscope Hearts (Hearts #1) by Claire Contreras
Question? What's up with your sibling trying to pick your mate?

Truly, I don't understand that concept and it could be because I am an only child.

At any rate, I thought the siblings Estelle and Victor were very immature at times. Oliver, kind of had a good reason for walking away the first time. But he really missed the boat when he kept doing it over and over, when he knew he and Elle had something.

I liked them together but I REALLY got tired of two GROWN UNATTACHED ADULTS sneaking around. Oliver are you sure Elle's the ONE??

The story did drag a little but overall it's a nice sweet contemporary romance.

The first time it happened, it seemed like an impossible miracle. Bills were piling up, adding up to more money than I could ever make. Mom's hospital bills. My baby brother's tuition. My tuition. Rent. Electricity. All of it on my shoulders. And I had just lost my job. There was no hope, no money in my account, no work to be found. And then, just when I thought all hope was lost, I found an envelope in the mail. No return address. My name on the front, my address. Inside was a check, made out to me, in the amount of ten thousand dollars. Enough to pay the bills and leave me some left over to live on until I found a job. Enough to let me focus on classes. There was no name on the check, just "VRI Inc.," and a post office box address for somewhere in the city. No hint of identity or reason for the check or anything. No mention of repayment, interest, nothing…except a single word, on the notes line: "You." Just those three letters.

If you receive a mysterious check, for enough money to erase all your worries, would you cash it?

I did.

The next month, I received another check, again from VRI Incorporated. It too contained a single word: "belong."

A third check, the next month. This time, two words. Four letters. "To me."

The checks kept coming. The notes stopped. Ten thousand dollars, every month. A girl gets used to that, real quick. It let me pay the bills without going into debt. Let me keep my baby brother in school and Mom's hospice care paid for. How do you turn down what seems like free money, when you're desperate? You don't. I didn't.

And then, after a year, there was a knock on my door. A sleek black limousine sat on the curb in front of my house. A driver stood in front of me, and he spoke six words: "It's time to pay your debt."

Would you have gotten in?

I did.

It turns out $120,000 doesn't come free.

Alpha (Alpha #1) by Jasinda Wilder
YES, I did read this on my own volition. It was FREE on Amazon, it was popular and it had some good reviews. Plus I was curious..........it did kill the cat, curiosity that is. I live and learn.....HA HA, NO I WON'T

Ridiculous, Unrealistic Fantasy........with plenty of A-play. I really don't know why I gave it 2 hearts.

As you can see I didn't have a very good week with the books I chose to read. The next group got better reviews from me and I look forward to posting them next week. Please come back and check it out.
